When your skin flares, the instinct is to throw every product at it — which usually makes it worse. This guide is a calm, minimal reset that lets angry skin settle, and shows you what to reintroduce, and when.
Why more products make it worse
A flare-up is often your barrier asking for less, not more. Piling on actives, scrubs, and spot treatments strips the skin further, so it overproduces oil and inflames. The fix is subtraction first.
The 3-step reset
1. Strip it back. For five days, use only a gentle cleanser, a plain moisturizer, and SPF in the morning. Nothing else.
2. Spot-treat, don't blanket-treat. Apply a thin layer of a salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide product to active spots only — not your whole face.
3. Reintroduce slowly. Once skin calms, add back one active every three days so you can see what it likes.
The rule of one change
Change one thing at a time. If you swap three products at once and your skin reacts, you'll never know which one did it. Slow is how you learn your skin.
